The Bellydance Foundation

The Bellydance Foundation was founded on the 5th of july 2000 to develop bellydancing in the Rotterdam area. Several dancing ensembles and musicians are connected to the foundation. These artists present themselves at different occasions, such as festivals, dance evenings, workshops and demonstrations.
The Bellydance Foundation organises oriental dance evenings, like Oriëntal Dream en Taâla.
Some of the Alimah Sameera dancers teach and give workshops in the Rotterdam area. All dancers are welcome to enlist with the Foundation as perfomer or teacher. Of course, some criteria apply, for instance having several years’ dancing experience.

Incentives

The Bellydance Foundation has the following goals: Teaching, developing the knowledge of different dances to and for all (groups of) people, irrespective of age, weight, size or other criteria, focussing generally on foreign dancing cultures and specifically on bellydance, hereby giving people the opportunity to amuse and express themselves.

The Bellydance Foundation tries to realise these goals by:
• organising workshops and introductory courses;

• contracting dancing teachers to provide high-quality lessons;

• organising appropriate housing for different groups or organisations that are promoting a dance;

• organising large-scale functions where different dancing demonstrations and performances may be presented;

• offering work experience places to interested people who have been unemployed for a longer period of time;

• designing and making costumes and decors;

• integrating (with) different social/cultural/dancing groups;

• taking various actions, which, taking the aforementioned goals in to consideration, may be seen in a broad context, to stimulate or develop (matters existing as result of) the incentives of the Foundation.

The Bellydance Foundation is a non-profit organisation.
Stichting Bellydance Foundation is dependant on the coöperation, support and enthusiasm of its volunteers. Thanks to these fantastic people who, with their boundless energy, complete a multitude of tasks, from being a dj at a party to sticking stamps on a mailing, the Stichting Bellydance Foundation can keep on developing and presenting itself. Why Bellydance?

We women have such hectic lives! We have so many responsibilities to take care of. Having a career, running the household, taking care of the kids and to boot, making sure we look slim and beautifully wrinkle-free…No mean feat!
But are we having fun? And are we able to express ourselves? Are we poised and balanced?

Thankfully, there is much to be found in the ancient Oriental Art of Dance that is lost in our modern, stressed and whirlwind society. It is no wonder that bellydance is rapidly gaining popularity here in Western Europe...
For starters, Western beauty ideals are totally unimportant in bellydance. Enjoying yourself and having fun, that’s what it’s all about!

Bellydance helps you to get to know your body again, teaches you how to control it, enhance your femininity and rediscover your sensuality. Your inner beauty and power are awakened, every time you roll your hips and shake your shoulders. The isolated movements are joined and framed by gentle arms and pretty hands. Your body and spirit flow with and in the music…a wonderful sensation!

Through the dance, you will have a more solid contact with Mother Earth, stand strong and sure, with both feet firmly on the ground. Your posture improves. Even if you’re just interested in working out and staying trim, bellydance is ideal. The movements are natural and comfortable, and fit any body!

To accentuate and embellish your movements, you can wear colourful and creative dancewear. A pretty shawl around the hips, a dress or harem pants in shiny fabric, glittering beads and jingling coins…all available in speciality stores or…yours for the making! The possibilities are endless and your only limitation is your own imagination. .

Bellydancing is for women, by women. The ladies of the Bellydance Foundation Alimah Sameera would love to introduce you to this very special art.
